Search Help

When searching for cases by party name, we support boolean AND, OR, AND NOT connectors, quotation marks, and the % sign as follows:

• Brown AND NOT Board will retrieve cases with parties named "Brown", except those with the word "Board" in the caption.
• ACLU OR AMA OR APA will retrieve cases with any of those words in the caption.
• Nixon AND "United States" will retrieve cases with both "Nixon" and the phrase "United States" in the caption.
• 5 U.S. % will retrieve all cases from volume 5 of the U.S. Reports
• Carter NEAR Coal will retrive cases where the words "Carter" and "Coal" appear within 10 words of each other.
• Loving AND Virg* will retrieve cases with the words "Loving" and anything that begins with "Virg" in the caption.
